Diary #5

Today  I have finallky decided on an initial idea, I have decided to use the song Promise by english singer songwriter Ben Howard. im going to do it as a love story between a boy and girl, the boy is singing the love song about the girl on his own, meanwhile we see her getting ready for a photoshoot and moving on with her life without him.

Above are the lyrics to the song that I have chosen, I am currently analysing the lyrics and making notes about what they mean as well as thinking of different shots that I could use in my music video to compliment the lyricsof the song.

Audience Questionnaire

Here are some images of my initial questionnaire below are the  questions as I originally wrote them as well as some of the written responses that I have so far received from my target audience, next as i further my audience research, I intend to get videos of people answering the questionnaire, as well as them discussing their preferences in music videos and what they would like to see from my music video.

As I continue further with my audience research, I would like to do some internet research as well, for example, I have had the idea to post a questionnaire on to blogger itself so that people can answer online and I can have computer generated percentages of peoples preferences towards music video. Another idea I had was to post a questionnaire on to facebook or other similar social networking sites and get my friends and other target audience members to answer them.

Diary #4

Today I decided to start some audience research, I have decided to conduct a simple questionnaire about peoples preferences and music video choices. The questions were:

1. Do you watch music videos?

2. If so, How often?

3.What is your favourite music channel?

4. What is it?

5. Do you use youtube to find new music videos?

6. What do you look for in a good music video?

7. Is there anything you don't like to see in music videos?

8. Do you have a favourite music video?

9. If yes, why?

So far I have questionnaires completed by three people, and intend to scan their questionnaires and post them shortly. eventually, I would like to have ten members of my target audience complete the questionnaire so then i can analyse the data from the results, and so that it will eventually help me make so decisions about what to include or use in my music video in order to attract the target audience.

I decided to analyse a music video by lady gaga with another student. We analysed bad romance and discussed the ways in which it adheres to Andrew Goodwin's music video theory.

Research in to Music TV Channels

I did some research in to some existing music television channels using the internet and such websites as wikipedia.org. I looked in to the history of three music channels, MTV which is the biggest and most well known music television channel in the world, Kerrang! tv, and  VIVA.

I did some research in to an existing music video director named Jonas Akerlund, who has worked with stars such as Madonna and Lady Gaga.
